It has been stated by K.T Achaya the author of the book Indian Food: A Historical Comparison that the term pillav or pallao have been invented by both the Persians and the Arabs. All the countries cook it by using the similar method of boiling the rice with the ingredients in a pot. The only difference is in the vegetables and ingredients used by all the above mentioned countries. Ibn Sina has been considered the ‘father’ of this delicious dish, pulao by the Persians. In the history of Alexander the Great this dish has been mentioned a lot of times, while he was in Persia during the battle.
